ya there r really only 4 mods that are active in 2k4: freon, freezetag, Onslaught and TAM.

Freezetag u get killed, u get frozen until someone stands next to u for a few seconds to thaw u, or until 1 team is completely frozen (in which case the other team gets a team point). Only populated servers left playing this gametype are SZO which is crouch to shoot sniper with a fast trans, and FTB which is zark rifle (always rapid fire) with a fast trans. Both are played with low gravity.

Freon is the same general principle as freezetag but it uses normal weapons and adrenaline combos to instant thaw teammates (you spawn with all default weapons except super weapons such as the deemer), with no trans and high gravity.

TAM is the same as freon but no one gets frozen they are just out, requiring adrenaline combo to bring them back into the round.

Onslaught is the gametype with the vehicles, kinda like domination where u try to control as many points as u can, once most/all control points are 100% under your control (it takes time for a control point to become 100% after a team secures it) u can attack ur opponents power core. The first team's power core to b destroyed looses. As far as i know, its difficult to find USA TAM and Onslaught servers now adays.

Freon is the most popular, but honestly it seems like both SZO and SOL (most active freon server) have been dropping pretty hard lately, with FTB being a constant 8 ppl + the 2 times a week we play and gaining some of the stragglers who remain from the szo dive bomb. Dont bother trying a rx server for 2k4, that nvr took off to any extent near 99, im not even sure anybody bothered to make an rx (tho i do know for a fact that someone made the StrangeLove). If u guys are really interested in 2k4 i recommend freon for u guys as its normal weapons high grav, u guys may really like it.

basically 2004 is dead as hell and just gotta wait on ut4 and continue struggling keeping our servers alive.. and then eventually face the inevitable.

Ever play Quake III Team Arena? Team Arena is basically the CTF version of Quake III Arena. Not quite as maneuverable as UT99 but still fun. I wonder if anyone would have an interest in trying that? It came out around the same time that UT99 did. I have the game and patches if you want to try it. Not sure how a QIII Team Arena server setup would be configured though. We ran Quake III Arena (not Team Arena) for a while when I was with either TTS or TUC, can't remember which. IDK, I like it. It's different.

PLayed it back in the day 2000-2001 not really into it but it was cool. Id only be interested if there was a huge following.

i played it alot in high school. U know ur computer teacher is cool when he let u play it in class with everyone once ur work was done :D. Eventually stopped playing it cause i preferred ut movement, but its not a bad game. If u wanna go that route tho dont go quake 3, go quake live. Its the same game but its a web browser game, so no one has to go get a disk. Last i tried it it was free too.

oh well i guess shit has changed. It is no longer free and u have to get it threw steam. Still only $10 but now idk what the difference in player amount is between it and quake 3, in theory ppl r still playing live instead cause its newer, but they should still b the same game.

I was always a bit let down by Unreal Tournament 2003 and Unreal Tournament 2004 as they felt rather floaty, had a cartoony appearance (in spite being forked off the rather dark XBox game Unreal Championship), and weapons just felt off. It should also be noted that while UT2004 does have more content than Championship 1, it still feels like an inferior game due to how different the tone is (Epic and Digital Extremes went two different directions, DE went dark while Epic went more wrestling styled) and if you ever played both of those games you would see and hear what I'm talking about. In fact, here's my sloppy breakdown of them:

Unreal Championship
----------------------------
Darker more depressing presentation and backstory, in spite sharing UT2k3's intro video
Guns that look and feel like they're made to kill people
Better use of soundtrack (most notably on DM Insidius, DM Curse 3, and CTF Chrome) as well as some exclusive tracks which are rather dark and disturbing
Darker color palette (exclusive maps especially were rather dark and used a lot of the exclusive music in the game)
Straight forward death animations
Could be the controller, but the game felt heavier
Better polished than UT2k3 due to coming out later and having been in development earlier

Unreal Tournament 2003/2004
----------------------------
More Smackdown! style presentation and back story
Guns that look like children's toys
Extremely limited soundtrack in UT2k3, more cinematic style soundtrack in UT2k4, overall nowhere as good as UC1
Goofy/cartoony death animations (skeletons popping out, etc.)
Unnecessary details that clash with environments (most notably on DM Insidius where lava pits were added in UT2k4)
Extremely floaty feel
More game modes (in UT2k4), but overall they feel less refined
