How to run Unreal Tournament 99 on MacBook M1
macOS M1 Ventura
If you’re a dedicated Unreal Tournament 99 fan like me, you’ll want to run the game on the latest operating systems and hardware. I have successfully run Unreal Tournament 99 on an M1 Macbook Pro running macOS Ventura 13.0.1.
To run the game under macOS for the M1 processor you need:
Download
OldUnreal-UTPatch469c-macOS.dmg
THen download this
UT99-1337.7z
Drop UnrealTournament.app to /Applications
Create an Unreal Tournament folder in ~/Library/Application Support/
Copy the Windows versions of the Maps, Sounds, Textures, Music folder to ~/Library/Application Support/Unreal Tournament
Delete the files LadderFonts.utx, UWindowFonts.utx from the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Unreal Tournament/Textures
Run UnrealTournament.app from /Applications, enjoy the frags!
The penultimate step is needed to display the correct fonts, the original ones are displayed too small.
After starting, configure the screen resolution, keyboard, font size in the GUI, and other necessary settings.

Hummm, never played UT on a Mac before. Would like to check it out. Just happen to have a Mac here at work that I can try it out on. Thank RJ!

Oh yeah? I'm gonna install a mac emulator on my windows. Then I will have it emulate windows that will emulate linux and I'll install WINE and UT on that.

im running osx on VM workstation 14 atm runs like a champ. installed ut on my mac downstairs runs great as well

So if you follow the PC steps for mac you'll get a full copy of UT for free all the same? They made the error "twice"?

If you use the versions I posted there is nothing needed but the installation to play :)

The name folder is UT_Demo/Mac/ but they are full UT99 optimized not demo ... not by me

If you use the versions I posted there is nothing needed but the installation to play :)
Now I'm wondering if they (UT developers & company) did this "back-way free install" on purpose.

The PPC version, for OS 9 PPC computers, and some off OSX computers was the original release that Epic did for Mac. Eventually the no CD krack came out and all was good, except all you can do is play, you could not build maps :( It preferred OpenGL for the graphics as I recall. Audio was way different though.
The "Intel" version, which I am playing on currently, is a cider/wineskin build of the GOTY for Windows. You have full functionallity including building maps... though the cache system leaves everything in a big ol' mess.

got my new MacBook pro, will give this a run. Not that i would ever play UT at work .
