Disheartening News

Post by =(V)=CandyMan »

Good morning/afternoon/evening Vulpine Mission Community, unfortunately, what you're about to read won't be any good. I was just informed that Orville or as many of you have known him by, Duke, he sadly passed away on 6/24.

Back around November I received a phone call from him and he explained to me that his cancer had returned, this time more severe, and that his doctors wanted to try a new drug treatment. But, he also stated that this new treatment could go one of a few ways; his body could accept the drug and the cancer again would go into remission, his body would accept it but leave him brain dead, or ultimately it would kill him and he said, we'll know in a few months.

So what do you me to say? Do you want me to say that Duke was caring? Humble? Loving? Compassionate? When he called me up in November, he asked me for my forgiveness, which left me speechless. I don't quite remember what was said but I do remember forgiving him and him forgiving me, simply because he wanted to go knowing there was no bad blood between us but I do remember this, I told him, there was no animosity between him and I in this game even though we had our differences. I tend not to let games interfere with my relationships in the real world, and I think the only friendship that was damaged was John and I's, which I don't think will ever be repairable.

Duke was known to say what was on his mind, no filter between his brain and his mouth, he said what he said. He was an old schooler, fuck your feelings, he had a thick spine, and skin. He was so adamant in becoming an admin and leader for Vulpine Mission but with the world and it's evolving ways, and always changing, would that have been a positive image for our leadership, for our family? But here's the thing, through all the hardships that Duke was put through, here, on our servers, by being told he couldn't do this or that, by being kicked down because of his views and his ideas, we were basically telling him, fuck your feelings. Through all of that, he still came around, hung with us, helped us, chatted with us, contributed with/to us, when he could have easily turned his back on us, like we did him, like many have done (admins and members alike). He considered us family, all he wanted was his time to shine, the responsibility, an opportunity, and just because we may not have liked his way, doesn't mean it was wrong, doesn't mean it was right, but that doesn't mean we don't work to compromise. Because if he couldn't be admin, for his ways, then I have question, why are some of you admin? Why am I admin?

Was he caring, humble, loving and compassionate, yeah, he was. Do I think he deserved a shot as Admin and even Co Leader? I won't even think twice or a split milisecond about that answer, yes. If some of you have that opportunity, feel honored that you do, I know I do, because this man didn't get his.

Fly high, Duke and say hi to Toxic, Bratt, Pepsi, Stars, Ven, and many more, until then, here's your chance to shine.

Yea, real sad news. He was a great guy. Both Badco and myself were helping him with maps, as BR mentioned. He did mention when I last emailed him, that his cancer had returned, but I had high hopes that he'd make it through that. God Bless him.

Definitely one of the good guys and will missed greatly. He loved Unreal Tournament and played it until he couldn't play it anymore. Even through his tough battle, he would be on the server until he couldn't sit in the chair any longer but would take a break and come back.
We talked alot over the phone besides in-game and he told me he wanted to make all these maps for his "legacy".
He was tough, fought a hard fight and never complained once to me but would describe all his symptoms. And even one of the last times before he moved up north to be with his family for his last days, I could hear him "almost" break down, but he remained tough and didn't cry. I admire that, although I don't think I would have been that tough.

Until we meet again my friend, rest in peace.

He left his mark, definitely. I'm going to be checking up on Trickshot here in a few weeks to see how things are with him and such, because I know him and Duke were close too.

Wow, I can't believe it.

OB (which is what I knew him as) and I had gotten to know each other a little better in the last year or so.

We joked around a lot and kidded each other about how old we are.

I knew he had been sick but of course I didn't know it had gotten bad.

I hadn't seen him lately and I had been wondering.

I'm so sorry to hear this.
