Thinking about selling a laptop

Post by =(V)=Prince Vegeta »

Sony VAIO vpcz1290x 512GB SSD

I guess I can post it on amazon? I dont have an eBay account. It has been almost 10 years since I sold anything onlne, and I can only find one used item (lesser speced) that was sold in the last few months.

I also have a desktop that I will give away if someone can arrange for pickup. Alienware Area 51 circa 2009. I blelieve the specs are Core2 Q9650, 8GB ram, 2 Nvidia GT9600 in SLI, nForce 790i Ultra SLI MCP, Soundblaster Audigy Platinum, Blu Ray Burner. I'm not going to waste time hooking this monster back up and checking the exact specs, as it has been secure wiped, is destined for a donation, free, or the trash.

Honestly, your best bet would be eBay or Craigslist. I think it'd be far too hard to find a buyer on Amazon.

How old is it and how much are you trying to sell it for?

To buy from internet from here you need to rent a virtual mailbox (mailbox rental service).

Thanks Pie. It is about 4 years old: it was bleeding edge at the time. It can still run adobe photoshop and premiere in 1080p without blinking. Battery life/fan noise is where these old mobile i7's suffer. I essentially used it as a mobile desktop 23 inch monitors based in several offices.

The last (and only) price I saw on an ebay sale (june 2014) for a lesser model was $1499. Based on that, I'd easily let this go for $800 (assuming I'm not posting on ebay/craigslist - where I would try to max my value).

Note: I have always junked my old computers (with the exception of a model back in the early 90's), so I am definitely not good on pricing. Maybe I should just avoid the hassle and donate it for a tax credit.

Honestly, at four years old, I don't think it'll sell for $800. Laptops usually live about five years max, maybe up to seven depending on how well you took care of it. The issue is and will always be the motherboard.

You could always try, but I doubt it'll sell on Amazon. I think eBay or Craigslist would be your best bet, and I would do, "$800 obo" so they have the option of offering what they feel is a more reasonable price.

same age as the machine. Geez louise, I based my initial guestimate based on a machine I saw sold on ebay in June for $1,500. But I see another one sold last year with a 128GB SSD for $800. Thats a big price difference - why????.

I think I have a cousin that may want it.

I will just give it way. Thanks for the input folks.

But it's a used SSD. Without guaranteeing that you took proper care of it, people might not be willing to spend that much on it. Used electronics are a touchy thing.
