Hello all,

I have a really nice Samsung Rugby II (I believe it is called)

It is currently on the AT&T network. It does not work where I live. I have another (brand new) smart phone that I want to give to my lady friend, and power this baby back up, but am having trouble unlocking it. I have found the instructions to "root" the phone, but everyone wants money (like 28.00 bux) to provide an unlock code.

There are so many intelligent minds here, I figured someone would know where to obtain a code for free. Can anyone help me out ?

If no one here can help id suggest searching google and yahoo and etc. Then I'd try searching the dark web and torrents.

Also email/call at&t and ask for the code. They may give it to you.

Be very weary of any downloads from suspicious sites. Always run security scans and virus scans. Check and make sure everything is up to date on whatever device you're using. Stuff like this is where they get ya with viruses

That's a pic and one of the sites that I'm *not* giving my hard earned cash to. I saw some dude on fleaBay charging only 1.99.... but still.... I am sure these codes are available *somewhere* - just haven't found where yet.

I just hate my smartphone. Hate the soft touch keys. Don't even have the 'net enabled on it. Just unlimited talk and text. I work with the internet all friggin' day long as part of my job. Don't need the internet in my pocket.

That Rugby phone was the most durable phone I have ever owned. Like one of those old "brick" Nokias. AT&T just doesn't work where I live. Wanna unlock it to use with all 4 of the networks.

It's Mil-Spec and water resistant. There is a friggin' rubber gasket sealing the battery door shut. It's f'n bullet-proof !

Nothing on that site, RJ. Will have to continue the quest for knowledge. Maybe someone "in the know" will see this thread.

I too thought unlocking was rooting. Bit it's two separate things BigJake.

Although this particular phone is internet capable, it is not on the Android O/S. But thanks anyways, Jake.

Your welcome..I can dig some more. Been working on a phone I was told impossible to break but I was able to do it. I get OCD and refuse to give up. I have a bunch of pages of phone crap and a few people who i picked their brains for hours. I love a good challenge. I bricked my phone and then fixed it when I was told impossible..LOL!!

Update :

I reached out to both Samsung and AT&T. Their response :

AT&T : You will have to reach out to the manufacturer for phone unlocking.

Samsung : You will have to reach out to the carrier for assistance.

eff that. The sound quality and over all build quality is the best I've ever seen.

I just did a ATT phone a few months back. ATT will do it as long as you are the owner of the phone. You need to speak to the right person. Go here and they should help you out. att.com/deviceunlock.

1. Power off the device, remove the battery, and insert a non-AT&T SIM card.

2. Re-insert the battery and power on the device with non-AT&T SIM.

3. The device displays "Enter the device unlock code."

4. Enter the eight-digit unlock code.

5. Press OK.

Note: You are allowed five attempts to unlock before your device permanently locks to the AT&T network.
